Dr. Daniel Thomas earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Dentistry in 1990. He then entered UMKC’s Advanced Education Program in Periodontics, graduating in 1992 and earning a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology and Certificates in Periodontics, Implant Dentistry and Intravenous Conscious Sedation. He has been practicing Periodontics and Implant Dentistry in Leawood, KS, since 1994 and in Kansas City, MO, since 2007.
Dr. Thomas is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and Implant Surgery and has been awarded the highest level of recognition by the specialty. He has been actively engaged in his profession beyond his daily practice. He was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Dentistry. Dr. Thomas is a fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.
In addition to providing exceptional periodontal care to his patients, Dr. Thomas also is dedicated to serving his community through public service activities. In 2011 he served as the Chairman of the Kansas Board of Regents, Oral Health Task Force. He is a graduate of the esteemed Leadership Kansas program, Class of 2012. In 2013 he was appointed by Kansas Governor Brownback to serve as a Director on the University of Kansas Hospital Authority Board. Governor Sam Brownback called again in the summer of 2015 when he appointed Dr. Thomas to serve as a Regent on the Kansas Board of Regents that supervises, coordinates and governs Kansas’s higher education system.
Dr. Thomas is active in several professional associations and was appointed in 2018 to serve on the Kansas Dental Board by Governor Dr. Jeff Colyer and in 2019 by Governor Laura Kelly. Dr. Thomas served as a Director on the Kansas Arts Foundation. He is a recipient of the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor in recognition of his “outstanding contributions” to the country. He also has been honored by the Chamber of Commerce with the Professional Leader of the Year Award.
Dr. Thomas currently resides in Mission Hills, Kansas with his wife Dr. Donna Thomas, a Pediatric Dentist, and their two children, Alexandria and Preston.
Dr. Melissa Combs is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, where she attended the advanced BA/DDS program, completing both the Bachelor of Arts and the Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees in six years. Dr. Combs went on to continue her education with advanced training at the UMKC Department of Periodontics. Dr. Combs is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and has completed the highest level of recognition by the specialty. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Combs earned certificates in periodontology and intravenous conscious sedation. She received extensive training in a variety of periodontal procedures including: esthetic periodontal plastic surgery including gum grafting, gum surgery including pocket reduction/correction, bone regeneration, maxillary sinus lifts, and the placement of dental implants.
Dr. Combs is a member of several professional organizations including: American Association of Periodontology, Kansas Dental Association, American Dental Association, 5th District Dental Society, and the Missouri-Kansas Society of Periodontics.
Dr. Melissa Combs has been practicing Periodontics in Leawood, KS since 2004 and Periodontics in Lee’s Summit, MO since 2010. Dr. Combs currently resides in Leawood, KS with her husband and their two children.
Dr. Jonathan Thomas is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, where he attended the advanced BA/DDS program, completing both the Bachelor of Arts and the Doctor of Dental Surgery degrees in six years. In May of 2006, he was awarded “Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry” by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry for esthetic crown lengthening.

Dr. Thomas is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the graduate Periodontal residency program at the UMKC School of Dentistry
Dr. Thomas is a member of several professional organizations including: American Association of Periodontology, Kansas Dental Society, Missouri Dental Society, American Dental Association, and the Midwest Society of Periodontology. Dr. Jonathan Thomas is the current Vice President of the Missouri-Kansas Society of Periodontics.
Dr. Jonathan Thomas is also a graduate of the esteemed Leadership Kansas, Class of 2014. Dr. Thomas has been practicing Periodontics in Kansas City, MO since 2007. Dr. Jonathan Thomas is the nephew of Dr. Daniel Thomas, and currently resides resides in Prairie Village, KS with his wife Johnna (who is a dentist!) and their three dogs.
Dr. Brent A Wenzel obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Kansas. Following, he graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2006.
Seeking greater experience and technical skill, Dr. Wenzel earned a General Practice residency certificate from Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City. He then attended a three year Periodontics residency at the prestigious Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Wenzel gained tremendous clinical experience with gum disease, dental implants and intra-oral plastic surgery. He also participated in the elective Master of Science degree program earning a first place award from the International Association of Dental Research and the MCG-School of Graduate Studies “Excellence in Research Award” for his research and presentations given at regional and national levels. Dr. Wenzel has numerous publications in dental journals, and a diverse research and teaching background.
Dr. Wenzel is a Board Certified periodontist. A Diplomate is a periodontist who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty and who is certified by the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Wenzel is a full scope periodontist and has been practicing in Olathe, Kansas for over ten years.

Dr. Wenzel lives on Olathe. In his free time, Dr. Wenzel’s focus is family. He also enjoys fishing, exercise, and Kansas City BBQ.
